[Update] Notice regarding error caused by Windows Update released March 9, 2021

Regarding the recent errors that were reported from SATO printer users using Windows printer drivers and have been caused by the March 9 Windows security update, Microsoft has released the following updates on March 18 to fix the issue.

For Windows10 Version 20H2 and 2004: KB5001649
For Windows10 Version 1909: KB5001648

Known issues that have been resolved:

  1. (1)
    Windows blue screen (BSOD) appears with error code: APC_INDEX_MISMATCH when attempting to print to certain printers.
  2. (2)
    Unexpected results occur when printing from certain apps or to certain printers, showing the blue screen with the APC_INDEX_MISMATCH code. Issues include missing or solid color graphics, misalignment/formatting issues or printing of blank pages/labels.

Models affected: All SATO printer models

How to install the update1:

Check to see if the update is already installed.

  • Go to “Settings” > “Update & Security” to open “Windows Update”
  • Select “View update history”
  • Look for “KB5001649” (for Windows10 Version20H2 and 2004) or “KB5001648” (for Windows10 Version 1909) to confirm that the update has been installed.

If the applicable update is not listed, install in the following steps:

  • Go to “Settings” > “Update & Security” to open “Windows Update”
  • Select “View update history”
  • Select “Check for updates”
  • Select “Download and install”
